The Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) is reportedly contemplating an alliance with the Congress at all levels.
According to PRP supremo K Chiranjeevi, the party will continue its alliance with the Congress in a phased manner. He said the Praja Rajyam is considering tying up with the Congress in the local body elections initially. However, Chiranjeevi intends to discuss this issue with his party seniors before taking any decision on it.
Actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi, who was in Rajahmundry to to participate in a meeting of Polavaram oustees, said the party’s top-most priority is to solve the problems of the evacuees.
He said he would raise the oustees' problems with Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, and seek reasonable compensation for their lands and properties, which currently face the threat of submergence once the irrigation project comes up.
He said he would also focus his attention on solving the problems of farmers, as they stand to lose their livelihood due to the irrigation project.
Chiranjeevi also criticized the Centre for hiking petrol prices at a time when the prices of essential commodities is hitting the roof. He urged the government not to increase the prices of petroleum products, as it would burden the middle class and the poor people.
