Amid the municipal election process, elections for the posts of Chairman and Vice-Chairman in the Ibrahimpatnam municipality (Ranga Reddy district) and Kyathanapalli municipality (Mancherial district) were concluded today.
The BRS won the Ibrahimpatnam Chairman election, with BRS councillor T Sudarshan Reddy elected as Chairman and BJP councillor Muthyala Shyamala Bhaskar as Vice Chairman.
Contestants for the Chairman post included T Sudarshan Reddy (BRS) and Akula Yadagiri (Congress). The election was conducted by a show of hands.
The BRS also won in the Kyathanapalli municipality (Mancherial district), where its candidate Sandhya Rani was elected Chairperson and CPI candidate Saritha Vice Chairperson. Notably, Congress councillors abstained from the election.
Prior to the elections, Congress councillors raised objections, citing ongoing court cases involving three councillors and requesting a postponement until judicial decisions were delivered, according to reports.
However, officials said that the election notification had been issued in accordance with High Court directives and that there were no legal impediments to proceeding, following which the elections were conducted and results announced.
In a related development, the election for the posts of Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson in the Khanapur municipality has once again been postponed due to controversy surrounding the process.
