Speaking as the chief guest at the centenary celebrations of the Communist Party of India (CPI) in Khammam, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's anti-people policies needed to be countered, and called for unity to fight "the dangerous policies of the BJP government, because the BJP was more dangerous than the British".
The Chief Minister said that India's independence was achieved through the collective struggles of these parties during the British rule. He claimed that many rights in the country were secured only through the struggles of the Congress and the CPI, both of which had a 100-year history.
Reddy also claimed that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, with the slogan "land belongs to the tiller", had introduced major agrarian reforms and distributed thousands of acres of land from landlords to farmers. He said that it was due to the struggles of the communists that the Congress had introduced farmer-friendly laws to ensure fair prices for agricultural produce and eliminate the middleman system.
He alleged that Prime Minister Modi was now undermining the hard-won rights of the citizens through various policies. He claimed that the BJP had no place in Khammam district, and appealed to the people to join the future struggles of the Congress against the BJP and Narendra Modi. He also urged cadres to work together to make Congress leader Rahul Gandhi the next Prime Minister.
