The state heaved a sigh of relief as the cyclone Thane crossed the coast at Puducherry, sparing the Andhra coast.
The state was fully prepared to meet any eventuality, Revenue minister N Raghuveera Reddy told reporters on Friday, adding that Chittoor and Nellore districts were affected due to the cyclonic storm.
There were rain and squally winds in 176 mandals of the 2 districts, while the effect was severe in 58 mandals, he said.
Though the sea was calm, fishermen have been urged not to venture into the sea for one more day. Official machinery along the coast was geared up, in wake of the storm. (INN)
