District administrations have been put on high alert with the cyclonic storm Thane, which lay centered 300 kms off south-east Chennai, likely to cross the coast between Nagapatnam and Chennai on Friday.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chief Secretary Pankaj Dwivedi held a meeting with concerned officials to review their preparedness to tackle any contingencies arising out of the cyclone crossing the coast which results in heavy rain and squally winds along the coastal region.
The administration was asked to evacuate people living in low-lying areas well in advance and shift them to shelters, and also to provide medical facilities, drinking water and sanitation.
The Panchayat Raj department was asked to supply chlorine tablets to all the villages. The Animal Husbandary department was instructed to take care of livestock.
The R&B department was asked to stock implements required to cut trees and restore traffic without much inconvenience to the public.
The Municipal Administration department was asked to ensure the provision of clean drinking water to the public.
Fisheries department officials were asked to rescue fishermen stranded in the sea. (INN)
