The Osmania University (OU) campus today witnessed tense moments during the visit of a Congress delegation.
The delegation visited the university to inspect lands which were allegedly encroached upon by the family members of a retired High Court judge.
The delegation was led by TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, and comprised of senior party leaders V Hanumantha Rao, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, former MLAs Ch Vamshichand Reddy and S A Sampath Kumar, and other leaders of the party, apart from Uttam Kumar Reddy himself.
The local police obstructed the leaders when they were trying to visit the encroached land in DD Colony. Enraged at this, VHR entered into an argument with the police and asked the latter the reason behind stopping them from visiting the controversial site.
Speaking on the occasion, TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded that the state government immediately stop the construction works at the site.
Claiming that the area of the university was shrinking with each passing day, he said that it was a warning sign for the coming generations.
He said that everyone had thought that the standards of education at the university would be improved after statehood for Telangana, but that that hadn't happened due to the evil designs of the CM.
He alleged that the CM had also diluted all the other universities of the state, and termed the decision of the state government to encourage private universities, cruel.
He demanded the state government to take steps to protect the lands of the OU and improve the standards at the university.
He also called upon the students and teachers of the university to come forward and fight over the issue.
He said that the Congress would lodge a complaint on the issue with the Governor of the state.
He also alleged that the police had booked a case on those who had urged them to protect the lands, and said that the police should not intervene in civil cases.
