Telangana ministers K T Rama Rao, Indrakaran Reddy and Mahender Reddy participated in the review meeting on the free double bedroom houses scheme held at Metro Rail Bhawan in Begumpet on Tuesday.
The Collectors of Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad and Medchal, MLAs of the twin cities, and housing department and GHMC officials participated in the meeting.
Speaking to the media later, KTR said that the government had given several exemptions to the builders, and that several companies had been coming forward to construct the double bedroom houses after the MLAs had spoken directly with the working agencies.
He also said that the government was aiming to launch the construction of one lakh houses and complete them by the next financial year, and that the tender process for 16,562 houses was complete. The government was inviting tenders for another 16,000 houses, and permission would be required for the remaining 70,000 houses.
Rao said that the construction of houses would be supervised directly by the ministers, and that he would lay the foundation, along with the other ministers, at several places.
He asked the city MLAs to show interest in finding vacant places for the construction of the houses. He stated that the MLAs had to see that they created awareness among slum dwellers to construct the houses in their areas. He asked Housing Minister Indrakaran Reddy to set up a project management unit for housing in Hyderabad.
Indrakaran Reddy said that his department would extend full cooperation to the construction of the houses and fulfill the Chief Minister's hope of housing for all. He directed the housing department officials to convene a special meeting with the GHMC officials in this regard. The minister said that the department would speed up the process of construction of double bedroom houses in the districts as well.
Rao asked the Housing Minister to include a clause in the double bedroom housing scheme that the beneficiaries should not sell their houses. He said, "If there is no such clause, the expected quality change will not happen in the lives of the poor."
