Many leaders and officials in Telangana today extended their Women's Day wishes to the women in the state on the eve of the occasion.
Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan conveyed her wishes in a heartfelt message that said, "I extend my heartiest wishes and greetings to all the women of Telangana. Our heritage, culture, and traditions for centuries have respected and honoured women. We worship them as the personifications of Goddess Shakti. It is high time that we truly imbibe and implement the spirit of gender equality and promote women in decision-making roles in all spheres of life for a more equitable, and inclusive world. International Women's Day is an occasion to celebrate and emulate the success of women in different walks of life. From family care to nation-building, woman is always omnipotent."
"I salute the spirit of sacrifice and bravery shown by women as caregivers and frontline warriors during the Covid-19 pandemic. Let us all resolve to work for the all-round development of women and gender equality in keeping with the true spirit of the theme of this year's Women's Day celebrations- "Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a Covid-19 world". I once again extend my best wishes to all women on this happy occasion of International Women's Day," she added.
The chairperson of the Telangana State Women's Commission V Sunitha Laxma Reddy also wished the women in the state. She then heaped praise on Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, saying that the latter had been committed to empowering women.
Reddy made these remarks while addressing a gathering at an event to launch Neeraja Bandi's book, 'Empower to Transform', which addresses specific issues faced by women.
The chairperson also called upon the women of the state to fight towards an equal Telangana, and said, "International Women's Day is celebrated to honour the achievements of the women of the world. It should encourage you to also work towards fulfilling your dreams. The state government has always recognised the importance of empowering women to achieve success, and will support you in your endeavours to do so. We have implemented many programs like She Teams and the Bharosa centres for the protection of the women in the state. I assure you that we will continue to take such steps."
The Chief Minister was also among the leaders who extended his wishes to the state's women today.
In a statement, he said, "Women play a key role in development. They are competing with men in all fields and are excelling as well. Women, who constitute 50% of the population, will do wonders if they are given the chance to prove themselves. The Telangana government is taking a slew of measures to further the cause of women's development and empowerment. We will always be committed to their welfare, the CM said.
"Our She Teams, pensions for elderly women, single woman and widows, schemes like Shadi Mubarak and Kalyan Lakshmi, and KCR Kits for pregnant women are among the many programs we have launched to empower women," he added.
