Health Minister T Harish Rao today launched a new welfare scheme for women, Arogya Mahila, at the Buttirajaram Primary Health Centre in Karimnagar.
The program was launched in 100 hospitals across the State simultaneously, on the occasion of International Women's Day.
Speaking on the occasion, Rao said that eight types of services would be provided to women at 100 identified health centres and hospitals to start with under the scheme, and that the program would be extended to 1,200 centres across the State in the days to come.
Under the Arogya Mahila scheme, the identified clinics will be open exclusively for women on every Tuesday. Only female staff including doctors, ANMs, lab technicians and others will be deputed to those clinics on that day.
Besides treatment being provided, medicines will also be given, and tests will be done free of cost. If necessary, the women will be referred to the district headquarters hospital for further treatment.
"Arogya Mahila, KCR Nutrition Kit and Rs. 750 crore of interest-free loans - these are three gifts announced by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for the Telangana women to mark the occasion of International Women's Day," Rao said.
He said that many women were suffering from different types of health problems and were unable to approach doctors due to various reasons. This scheme would be helpful to women to undergo various health checkups free of cost, he said. The ASHA workers and ANMs should educate the women of the State about the program, he added.
"I encourage the women of the State to avail themselves of this facility being provided by the State government," Rao said.
