Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari today said, while distributing blankets to the students of Kasturbha Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) at Kusumanchi in the Khammam district, that the Telangana government had sought the Indian government's help in upgrading and empowering female- and minority-centric schools.
Along with Roads & Buildings Minster Thummala Nageswara Rao, SC Corporation chairman Pidamarti Ravi and officials, Srihari unveiled a statue of Goddess Saraswathi at the hostel.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the State government would distribute blankets for three lakh poor girl students this winter at the cost of Rs. 15 crores. The TRS government would also strengthen all these institutions and encourage education of girls in a radical way, he claimed.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had set a record of sorts by launching first of their kind Gurukul Vidyalayas in the State, he said, adding that they had already sought the Centre's help in providing high-class amenities and education to these schools.
"We have urged the Centre to upgrade the KGVBs to junior college, and staff are likely to be regularized as well," Srihari reiterated.
