Revolutionary poet Varavara Rao was arrested by police in Kurnool, on Thursday.
Varavara was on his way to Tirupati to protest against the style of conduct of the World Telugu Conference, to be inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee.
There were some voices of dissent on the conduct of the event from many quarters.
During the first WTD held in Hyderabad, Virasam (Revolutionary Poets Association) boycotted the event, and some of the writers were taken into custody. On the request of renowned poet Arudra, the arrested persons were released. Jalagam Vengal Rao, who dealt with the Naxalite uprising in Srikakuam, was the chief minister at the time. (INN)
