Telangana University Vice Chancellor Professor Ravinder Gupta fell into the ACB's trap.
He was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on Saturday taking a bribe at his house in Hyderabad, and arrested.
Gupta allegedly demanded money from a person for setting up an examination centre at Bheemgal. The person, Shankar, approached ACB officials, who laid a trap for Gupta. On Saturday morning, Shankar went to Gupta's residence in Hyderabad and gave the money. Gupta was caught by the ACB officials while accepting the bribe of Rs 50,000. Later, they conducted raids at his house and seized important documents, and arrested him.
ACB vigilance and enforcement departments officials also conducted searches in Telangana University in the wake of allegations of irregularities for some time now. It learnt that the ACB confirmed that illegal appointments and illegal transactions had indeed taken place as per the allegations.
