BRS leader and former MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy alleged today that a Rs 3,000 crore scam had taken place in cotton procurement in Telangana.
He claimed that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and minister Uttam Kumar Reddy were involved in the scam.
Addressing media persons at Telangana Bhavan, Sudarshan Reddy said that brokers purchased cotton from farmers at Rs 5,000 per quintal and sold it to other buyers at over Rs 7,000 per quintal, with cotton farmers thus losing Rs 2,000 per quintal.
He alleged that officials of the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) and the marketing department were part of this scam to cheat cotton farmers.
He said that farmers suffered significant losses due to delays in procurement by the CCI, and that only 20% of the farmers were able to sell their crop to the CCI. He alleged that the remaining cotton was sold by Congress leaders, who had formed a syndicate.
The BRS leader claimed that the scam was orchestrated during a secret meeting between CCI officials and traders at a hotel in Hyderabad during Diwali.
He demanded that a sitting judge be appointed to investigate the case.
