The Telangana police today arrested Vanama Raghavendra Rao, son of the Kothagudem Assembly constituency MLA Vanama Venkateswara Rao, of the TRS, in connection with the suicide of four members of the same family.
A team of the Kothagudem police reportedly arrested Raghava in the city, though there was no official confirmation.
The reported arrest took place after a video shot by the victim Ramakrishna, who committed suicide along with three of his family members including two children by self-immolation (they triggered an LPG cylinder burst in their home), went viral.
In the video, Ramakrishna levelled allegations against Raghavendra Rao.
Following the suicide, the MLA Venkateswara Rao wrote an open letter to the people of his constituency that he was shocked at the incident.
He said that he would extend complete cooperation to the police in the investigation of the case.
He also said that he was ready to hand over his son to the police for interrogation.
The son of the MLA was reportedly arrested hours after the release of the letter.
The police are said to have taken Raghavendra Rao to Kothagudem, and the Paloncha police registered a case against him under sections 302, 306 and 307 of the IPC.
A total of six cases have reportedly been filed against Raghavendra Rao so far by the Paloncha police, and two more cases have been filed against him by the Paloncha Rural police.
Some of the allegations faced by Raghavendra Rao are damage of government properties, violation of Covid rules and provoking people to commit suicide.
TPSS president Revanth Reddy and Congress MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy demanded stringent action against Raghavendra Rao
