A woman police constable died while undergoing treatment after attempting suicide, allegedly driven by sustained harassment and humiliation by two men.
The deceased, Anitha, a resident of Seethya Thanda in Parvathagiri mandal, was serving as a constable in the Armed Reserve (AR) wing of the Warangal Police Commissionerate.
According to the police, Rajender, a distant relative from Thorrur mandal, had been promising to marry Anitha for the past four years. Recently, he began harassing her by insisting on constant video calls and accusing her of speaking to other men. Distressed by his behaviour, Anitha informed her parents, who firmly opposed the marriage.
Despite this, Rajender continued to pressure her. Meanwhile, Anitha entered into a relationship with a classmate, Jabbar Lal, with plans to marry after convincing their families. However, Jabbar is accused of demanding money and harassing her.
On January 27, Anitha called Rajender and told him that both Jabbar and he had ruined her life through harassment and humiliation, and that she intended to end her life. Police said that Rajender responded callously, asking her to go ahead.
Soon after, Anitha consumed pesticide. Though her family rushed her to a hospital, she died during treatment.
Based on a complaint lodged by her family, the police have registered a case against Rajender and Jabbar, and launched an investigation.
