The Telangana unit of the TDP today met for an emergency meeting at the residence of party supremo and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
The meeting was necessitated by the sudden
resignation of Telangana TDP chief L Ramana from the position and the party.
Several leaders of the TDP attended the meeting during which Naidu took their opinions on the matter of the appointment of the next state chief of the party. They told Naidu that they would abide by his decision on the issue.
Party leaders from Khammam suggested the name of the state vice-president and former MLA Katragadda Prasuna for the post. They told Naidu that Prasuna had been famous as Andhra's Sushma Swaraj, and that the leader had worked in different capacities during her political career and was a well-known public figure.
Assuring the TDP supremo that they would work as a team and strengthen the party in Telangana, they suggested that Naidu appoint new working presidents of the party while choosing a new state president.
The already weakened Telangana TDP faced a major setback when L Ramana recently stepped down from his post, and made clear his intention to join the TRS.
The resignation bodes ill for the yellow party for a whole host of reasons, but perhaps this defection will have a slightly more personal impact on Naidu himself since Ramana has been a close aide of the former CM for nearly three decades now.
