Telangana Resolution will be defeated in Assembly: VHR

He said that the Telangana Bill would be passed in the Parliament as the UPA constituents, and the opposition, BJP, both favour a separate Telangana.
Hyderabad | 25th October 2013
Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao on Friday said that the Centre should not take the opinion of Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Assembly into consideration for the creation of a separate Telangana state.

Talking to reporters recently, Hanumantha Rao said that the Telangana resolution would be defeated in the Assembly due to lack of numbers.

As against 119 MLAs from Telangana region, there are over 170 MLAs from the Seemandhra region. He said that the legislators from Seemandhra region have been making statements that they would defeat the Telangana Bill in the Assembly, apparently due to favourable "statistics".

However, he said that the Telangana Bill would face no hurdles in the Parliament as the UPA constituents, and even the main opposition, BJP, is in favour of a separate Telangana.

"Therefore, the Centre should introduce the Bill in Parliament and get it passed during the winter session," he said.

He also claimed that the Congress party would win 15 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana state in next general elections. (INN)
