The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Sunday alleged that injustice was done to the Telangana region during the implementation of Jalayagnam.
Talking to media persons during the padayatra in Medak district, TRS deputy floor leader T Harish Rao said that the government was discriminating against Telangana while implementing Jalayagnam, and that meagre funds were allocated for the irrigation projects in the region.
The TRS MLA also slammed the government for supplying inferior quality rice at Re-1-a-kg to people below the poverty line. He doubted whether the rice being supplied under the scheme is indeed edible. He also alleged that government has been imposing cuts in the supply of the other commodities, especially kerosene and sugar, since the rice scheme was launched.
Alleging that funds reserved for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are being diverted and misused for other purposes, Harish Rao demanded that the government set up a special board to monitor the usage of funds.
He appealed to the government to make a recommendation for the establishment of a university for tribals in the Telangana region.
He said that the government should declare a tanda comprising 500 tribals as gram pachayat.
Harish Rao criticised the state government for not honouring the promise made during Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's tenure of taking over the Nizam Sugar Factory in Nizamabad. He demanded that the government immediately take over the factory, a move which he said would benefit hundreds of sugarcane farmers. He also demanded that the government pay Rs. 3,000 per tonne of sugarcane to farmers, apart from transportation charges.
Responding to a question, the TRS MLA stated that his party would support a No Confidence Motion, if introduced by the Telugu Desam Party, against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government. However, he said that the TRS would oppose Naidu's plans to come to power by dethroning Kiran Kumar Reddy.
He described both the Congress and TDP as traitors of Telangana for obstructing the formation of a separate state. (INN)
