Protesting against the
alleged police attack on Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee chairman Swamy Goud on Tuesday, Telangana activists on Wednesday staged
rasta roko protests across the 10 districts of the Telangana region.
In Hyderabad, the Telangana activists, led by Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA K Taraka Rama Rao, blocked traffic at Mettuguda. At Hi-Tech City, they were led by T Harish Rao, at Trimulgherry in Secunderabad, under TRS Floor leader Etela Rajender, and at Abids circle, under Telangana Political Joint Action Committee chairman Prof. M Kodandaram.
The police took all these leaders and other activists into custody for disrupting traffic.
At many places, the
rasta rokos turned violent, and the police had to use mild force to control the protestors.
Addressing the rasta rokos, the Telangana leaders condemned the attack on Swamy Goud, and demanded action against the guilty.
Telangana Non-Gazetted Officers staged
rasta roko at the main gate of the Secretariat, accusing the state government of using coercive methods to end the strike. They raised slogans against Deputy Commissioner of Police Akun Sabharwal, and sought disciplinary action against him.
They also demanded that the government immediately release all the activists arrested "illegally' by the police.
At Narketpalli in Nalgonda district, the activists staged a
rasta roko on the Miryalaguda-Narketpalli national highway, disrupting the traffic. At Nagarjuna Sagar, the activists blocked traffic by sitting on the roads at Hastinapur in Rangareddy district. (INN)
