The Telangana State Petroleum Tank Trucks Owners' Association called off its strike on Monday as the State government agreed to waive the 14.5% VAT on transport.
The Association leaders have decided to discuss on the matter again with Chief Secretary on Tuesday.
The Association had gone on strike from Sunday midnight, bringing petrol, diesel and LPG cylinder supply to a halt in the city and elsewhere in the State. About 3,500 fuel tankers and 2,000 LPG cylinder transport trucks withdrew plying in Telangana on Monday. The Association's main demand was the immediate withdrawal of the 14.5% VAT imposed on transportation charges.
To address the grievance of the Association, the Commercial Taxes department officials held talks first with the Oil Marketing Company officials on Sunday in vain. The same evening, the officials also met with the Association leaders to convince them to call off the strike, which also failed. The decision of the Telangana government to waive the VAT finally did the trick.
