The Telangana Political Joint Action Committee on Thursday announced that it would observe 9 December as the "Telangana Atma Gauravam Divas" (Self Respect Day).
It was on the same day in 2009 that the Centre had announced that it would "begin the process for the formation of a Telangana state".
Addressing media persons after emerging from the JAC's Steering Committee meeting held at TNGO Bhavan, TP-JAC chairman M Kodandaram stated that the JAC has decided to observe 9 Dec (Friday) as "Telangana Atma Gauravam Day", and 23 Dec as "Betrayers Day", referring to the government's reversal of its decision on the statehood.
As part of the "Telangana Atma Gauram Day", the JAC will hoist a Telangana flag at Martyrs Memorial at Gun Park on Friday morning, and recall the services of those who died in the statehood struggle.
In the evening, the JAC will observe a "Telangana Jagarana" at Gun Park.
Kodandaram also called upon JAC leaders and employees to observe the "Atma Gauravam Day" all across the Telangana region.
Hailing the High Court's decision to grant bail to TRS politburo member Cheruku Sudhakar, who was detained for 12 months under the National Security Act, Kodandaram said that the verdict is a slap on the face of the state government.
Condemning Union Minister Of State For Home Jitendra Singh's statement in the Rajya Sabha that a consensus is needed for the formation of smaller states, Kodandaram said that these ministers were speaking against the very spirit of the Constitution. (INN)
