All the necessary arrangements have reportedly been made for the counting of votes tomorrow (Saturday) for the Telangana municipal elections, State Election Commissioner V Nagi Reddy said today.
Addressing the media, the SEC said that the vote counting officials would be on the job from 8 am in all the counting centers, and that the results would be made available by Saturday evening.
Reddy clarified that if the same number of votes were polled for two candidates, the winner would be selected through a lottery.
Elections were held for 129 urban local bodies on January 22, and the average vote percentage was about 71. The voter turnout for the nine municipal corporations was 58.83%, and that for the municipalities was 74.40%.
Reddy said that the political parties needed to submit Forms A and B to the election officials for the indirect selection of Mayors and Chairpersons for the ULBs by January 26 at 11 am and January 27 at 10 am respectively.
The local MPs, MLAs and MLCs will be ex-officio members and can cast their votes for the selection of Mayors and Chairpersons.
