Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today profusely thanked the people of the state for reposing confidence in the TRS government and voting for the TRS candidates in the recent municipal elections, and slammed the Congress and the BJP for trying to stall the municipal elections by levelling false allegations against the ruling party of wooing people with money.
Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan along with party working president K T Rama Rao and party secretary general and MP K Keshava Rao, KCR said, "The results in the municipal elections are a slap on the faces of the opposition parties. It is rare even for the TRS to get such handsome results. The people have once again shown how much they value and endorse our welfare and development programs."
"I have not seen this kind of consistent mandate being given to any party in all my political life. The people have whole-heartedly voted for the TRS in the Assembly, Parliament, gram panchayat and zilla parishad elections, and now they have once again ensured that the party will rule in at least 115 to 120 of the 129 municipalities and corporations in the State," he added.
The party supremo also congratulated the winners and thanked all the ministers, legislators and others for sparing no efforts to ensure a handsome victory in the elections. "I bless KTR and thank all the other leaders for their efforts. Earlier, we won 32 zilla parishads and now have won this overwhelming majority in the ULBs, all thanks to their efforts," the Chief Minister said.
Lashing out at the opposition parties for the frequent criticism and personal allegations against him and the party, KCR said there was no substance in the opposition's claims. He also pointed out that the stupendous victory in the municipal elections was despite the fact that neither he nor party working president K T Rama Rao undertook any campaign.
"The opposition has been spewing venom on me and the party, stating that power was misused and money power came into play during the elections. This actually is an insult to the people of Telangana since the opposition parties are questioning their integrity," he said. He added that the opposition should learn to respect the people's mandate, since otherwise democracy would lose its meaning and value.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also clarified that the TRS opposed the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act "100 percent". He also said that the TRS government would soon pass a resolution against the CAA in the Assembly.
