Finance Minister T Harish Rao today inaugurated a colony, KCR Nagar Colony, which was constructed to provide free housing to the poor at Narsapur in Siddipet district.
Rao conveyed his wishes to the beneficiaries as he handed over the keys of the units to them.
"We are happy that the TRS government's housing project is slowly being completed as it will allow the poor to live a life of dignity. Each unit has been built at a cost of Rs 8 lakh, and is fitted with all the infrastructure required for a comfortable life," he said.
However, he also warned the beneficiaries that the TRS government would seize the houses if the beneficiaries failed to use them properly.
"We advise the residents to refrain from renting or selling the homes, as the buildings have been built to house the poor. We also urge the residents to keep the units clean and hygienic," the minister added.
In what was likely an attempt to debunk any criticisms against the delays in the completion of the 2BHK housing project, he said, "KCR's dream of giving free houses to the poor is becoming a reality. The project is being completed in a phased manner. The government will continue to work towards its completion on a war footing."
The minister then highlighted some of the other welfare measures being taken by the TRS government.
"No other state has undertaken the kind of welfare measures that Telangana has. KCR is like an elder brother to all of us. He even offers marriage incentives of Rs 1 lakh to the families of poor girls. Besides giving pensions and KCR Kits, under the CM's leadership, the government has also improved the infrastructure of government hospitals. We assure you that we will continue to work towards the welfare of the people in this manner," he said.
