The Telangana government today issued orders calling for changes in the admission process for the B.Ed courses offered at the state's higher education institutions.
The changes will affect the eligibility criteria of the Telangana State Education Common Entrance Test (TS EdCET) 2021, which is taken by those wishing to gain admission into two-year B Ed courses in the state.
According to reports, the new criteria outlines two ways according to which the TS EdCET will be conducted this year. The exam will be conducted based on the percentage of seats allotted under different methodologies, with each having a specific set of eligibility criteria.
25% of the seats have been set aside for a mathematics-based methodology, and 20% for physical and biological sciences each - a minimum of 10% of the seats and a maximum of 20% can be allotted to each science-based methodology. For the social sciences, 45% of the seats have been allotted to English and oriental languages-based methodologies. Here, a minimum of 5% of the seats for the English-based methodology and 5% of the seats for the oriental language methodology will be earmarked. A total of 15% of the seats comprises the minimum number of seats for English and oriental language methodologies, together.
Now, the students seeking to join the physical sciences methodology must have studied either physics or chemistry, unlike earlier where both subjects were compulsory. Also, for those seeking to join the biological sciences methodology, study of either botany or zoology is acceptable. Again, both subjects were compulsory under the earlier norms.
Education officials believe that the new orders will provide the students of the state some reprieve.
