A heated confrontation between MLA Danam Nagender and Corporator P Vijaya Reddy erupted during a Congress meeting in the city on Saturday, exposing deepening factionalism within the party's Khairatabad unit.
The argument broke out at Lake View in Banjara Hills, leading to chaos as supporters of both leaders shouted slogans and counter-slogans. As the party's rival workers engaged in loud arguments and disruptions that lasted for nearly 10 minutes, the scene quickly turned unruly, prompting District Congress Committee (DCC) President Rohin Reddy to leave the venue in displeasure. Party observers struggled to restore order.
The confrontation has raised serious concerns about the Congress' ability to manage internal disputes and present a united front, especially ahead of upcoming electoral challenges.
This is not the first time tensions have flared between the two leaders. In a previous incident during a rice distribution programme in Himayatnagar, Vijaya Reddy expressed displeasure over her photo being excluded from the event's display board. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, who was present, had to intervene to calm the situation. The rift between Reddy and Nagender has since escalated, culminating in frequent public disagreements that continue to strain the party unity.
