Telangana leaders recalled the life of Mahatma Gandhi on his 75th death anniversary on Monday.
Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy garlanded the statue of Gandhi on the Assembly premises.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy said that Gandhi would remain in the minds of people as along as the universe existed, and that his sacrifices would never be forgotten.
The Speaker said Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was implementing the ideals of Gandhi, and that the people of the entire nation were keenly following the rapid progress of the State.
Gutha Sukender Reddy said that the people needed to protect the federal system and secular spirit of the country to keep Gandhi's vision for the country alive.
Speaking on the strained relations between KCR and Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, Sukender Reddy said that persons in constitutional posts should maintain dignity, and that the Assembly, the Council and the Raj Bhavan should work in harmony.
Meanwhile, Minister for IT and Industries K T Rama Rao too recollected the sacrifices of Gandhi and said that the best homage to be paid to the Mahatma was practising his ideals of peace and communal harmony.
"75 years ago this day, Terrorism had shown its ugly face for the first time in independent India as Godse. Let us remind ourselves on the 75th Death Anniversary of #MahatmaGandhi Ji that the best homage we can pay to Bapu is practising his ideals of Peace & communal harmony (sic)," KTR tweeted.
