Hyderabad | 20th October 2011
Congress MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao on Thursday alleged that the leaders of Telangana region have hatched a conspiracy to dethrone the Kiran Kumar Reddy government for the bifurcation of the state.
Addressing a gathering of Seemandhra leaders, who formed a human chain as part of a 5-day protest called for by the Seemandhra Joint Action Committee, at Mother Theresa Centre in Guntur, Rayapati alleged that Telangana leaders have conspired to destabilize the government for the sake of Telangana statehood.
However, he did not elaborate on what the actual conspiracy was and who hatched it.
The Congress MP alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party is supporting the Telangana statehood agitation with an eye on garnering vote banks in the region. By extending support to the Telangana Bill in the Parliament, he said, the BJP wants to increase its strength in the region.
However, the people of Seemandhra region would foil BJP's attempts and the party would bite the dust in this part of the State, he claimed.
"It may win one or two seats in Telangana region, but it will get a 'zero' in the Seemandhra region," he said.
Suspecting the commitment of BJP senior leader L K Advani towards a Telangana state, he asked why the BJP opposed the formation of Telangana during the NDA government's tenure.
Rayapati said that unlike Telangana activists, who he said resort to bandhs and rail rokos and cause inconvenience to people, Seemandhra leaders should agitate peacefully for an integrated state.
He expressed confidence that the Centre would take a favourable decision by keeping the state united.
Stating that Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has been consulting leaders from all 3 regions in the State, the MP said that a consensus would soon be arrived at on keeping the state united. (INN)
