The Samaikhya Andhra JAC's clarion call for a bandh, in protest against the Centre's possible move to divide the state, evoked mixed response in the Seemandhra regions.
A majority of educational institutions, including all colleges under the 13 universities in the region, remained closed on Friday.
The universities had also postponed their PG counselling sessions, and their exams in view of bandh. Shops and establishments also remained close in all the major towns, like Vijayawada, Guntur, Visakhapatnam, Nellore, Chittoor, Tirupati, Anantapur, Kadapa, Kurnool and others.
The public transport was also badly affected as the state-run RTC was unable to run its service in several districts of the Andhra and Rayalaseema regions. Protest rallies and dharnas, demanding that the Centre keep the state united, were also organised at several places. (INN)
