Telangana Leaders Woo Investors

Telangana leaders allayed the fear of investors, and ensured that their investments would be safe in case of the bifurcation of the state.
Hyderabad | 16th January 2011
Legislators on Sunday sought to assure investors that their investments would be safe in the event of a separate Telangana state being carved out of Andhra Pradesh.

Seeking to allay all fears of industrialists and entrepreneurs that their investments would not be harmed, Congress MP Gutta Sukhender Reddy said that the the government in the future Telangana state would be investor-friendly, and would look at developing the economy in the new state by promoting growth in the industrial sector.

Sukhender Reddy was speaking to media persons after emerging from a meeting of MPs, MLAs, MLCs and other leaders from Telangana region on Sunday. The meeting was held under the aegis of Telangana Development Forum.

The meeting saw the leaders discussing the issues concerning the development of Telangana region in the event of the bifurcation of the state, and steps to be taken to address the issues likely to emerge after Andhra Pradesh was split into two.

Sukhender Reddy assured the investors that there would be no hurdles for development of industries in Telangana region.

He said that the new government formed in the Telangana state would adopt industrial-friendly policy, and would promote entrepreneurs to establish their units.

When pointed out at reports emerging from New Delhi that the Congress high command was contemplating to offer plum posts to Telangana leaders in the imminent cabinet expansion to appease them to withdraw their pressure tactics, Sukhender Reddy said that the posts were not the goal for Telangana leaders. "Our first priority is the formation of Telangana state. We will sacrifice any post for the cause of Telangana state formation," he said.

Telangana Telugu Desam Party Forum Convenor Nagam Janardhan Reddy called upon leaders of all parties to unite and work for Telangana state formation.

Janardhan Reddy said that he was ready to submit his resignation from the TDP for the sake of Telangana if such a need arose.

He asked the leaders to keep their party agenda at bay, and make united efforts for introduction of a Telangana bill in the Parliament by mounting pressure on centre.

Janardhan Reddy also alleged that leaders from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema were conspiring with some 'unscrupulous' leaders from Telangana to subvert the efforts of the people to attain a separate Telangana state.

The senior TDP leader also predicted that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) will become 'zero' once Telangana state was formed.

He said that the TRS had been launched with the goal of attaining a separate state and after this was achieved, it would become redundant. Janardhan Reddy, however, was optimistic about TDP's survival in Telangana, since it would stand by the promise of the development of the state.

MLAs K Taraka Rama Rao and Julakanti Rangareddy were also present in the meeting.
