Ministers from the Telangana region are preparing to visit New Delhi in the next few days, to mount pressure on the high command over the statehood issue.
Although divided over the issue of raising the Telangana statehood demand at this juncture, a majority of them are in favour of capitalising on the current political situation. Besides asking the Congress high command to make a clear statement on the Telangana issue, the ministers are also lobbying hard to ensure that leaders from the region gain from the present situation.
Following reports of a major reshuffle in the state cabinet, and even possibilities of changes in the posts of the chief minister and the Pradesh Congress Committee president, these Telangana ministers will reportedly pressurise the Congress high command to allot either of the top posts to a leader from the Telangana region. They have already sought an appointment from Congress president Sonia Gandhi, and are likely to depart for the national capital in the next few days.
Meanwhile, Panchayat Raj minister K Jana Reddy, on Friday, denied all such reports. He claimed that all the cabinet ministers had reached their present positions only based on their talent, and that they had never lobbied for the big posts.
He also condemned allegations that chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana were not doing their job properly. He said that instead of criticising them, leaders ought to advise them on how they can strengthen the government and the party. (INN)
