A union government team will arrive in Telangana on Monday to assess the flood damage in the State.
A delegation of BJP leaders from Telangana met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to represent to him that Telangana's farmers had suffered hugely due to the recent rains, and this visit follows that.
The team will be led by Kunal Satyarthi, Advisor to the Disaster Management Authority, and will comprise officials of the finance, agriculture, hydropower, road transport, space department and national remote sensing agency of the union government.
Assistance will be provided from the Centre to the State once the report on the damage is received.
Meanwhile, BJP State president and union minister G Kishan Reddy today visited Moranchapalli village in Mulugu district, which was hit badly by the recent heavy rains and floods.
He interacted with the victims and listened to their sufferings. The victims told the minister how houses and roads were damaged in their village, and how their crops were washed away.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy said that the State government had Rs 900 crore with it as part of the national calamity fund, and that the victims should be helped in every possible way by it with those funds.
He also said that of the Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia being given to the deceased, 75% (Rs 3 lakh) had been given by the Centre. He demanded that the State government should give this (Rs 3 lakh) in addition to its own other financial assistance.
He added that it was the responsibility of everyone to help the victims in this difficult situation, and that the union government would also do more to help the victims after the central teams visited the flood-prone areas and assessed the damage.
