Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao announced financial assistance of Rs. 10,000 and 20 kg rice for the each flood-affected family in Bhadrachalam.
Speaking to the media on Sunday after inspecting the flood-hit areas in and around Bhadrachalam town, the CM also announced allocation of Rs 1,000 crore to take up works for the permanent protection of Bhadrachalam town from any Godavari floods in future.
"The government will take up construction of residential colonies for people living in flood-prone areas, develop an embankment around the Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy temple, and also take up repair works of the embankment towards Burgampadu. The new residential colonies will be constructed at the highest altitude to protect Bhadrachalam town from flooding forever," KCR said.
The Chief Minister asked the district officials to identify the necessary land at a high altitude to construct the new residential colonies for the flood-victims, and said that the people who were living in areas along the embankments and were prone to flood impact should be shifted to the newly-built residential colonies.
Stating that a total of 7,274 families had been shifted to the rehabilitation centres, the CM said that the financial assistance of Rs. 10,000 and 20 kg rice would be extended to all flood-hit people including those in the rehabilitation centres, and asked the district administration to continue the rehabilitation centres by providing all amenities until normalcy was restored.
"There is also a need to protect the Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy temple at Bhadrachalam for all future. The government will take up development works, including protection of the Sitarama Parnasala, once the flood water recedes. After the completion of the works, Bhadrachalam will not be submerged even if the water level in the river crosses the 90-metre mark in the future," KCR disclosed.
The CM appreciated the entire administration, the NDRF teams and the Army personnel for working relentlessly to avoid loss of life and minimise the damage in Bhadrachalam due to the floods. He promised to visit the temple town once again after the flood waters receded and normalcy was restored.
Earlier, KCR had offered a "Shanti Puja" to the Godavari from the bridge across the river, and inspected the Godavari karakatta. He also visited a rehabilitation centre in Bhadrachalam town and interacted with the people evacuated from the flood-affected areas.
The Chief Minister arrived in Bhadrachalam by road from Warangal district after his scheduled aerial survey was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Ministers T Harish Rao, Puvvada Ajay Kumar and Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, DGP Mahender Reddy and others accompanied the Chief Minister.
