Minister for Education Sabitha Indra Reddy today announced that the State government had decided to increase the wages of the midday meal scheme workers, and that the increased wages would be given to the workers from this month.
Speaking at a meeting of District Education Officers held at the Telangana State Institute of Rural Development (TSIRD), the minister said that the increased wages would benefit a total of 54,201 cooks-cum-helpers who were currently working at various schools across the State.
She said that the hikes would put an additional burden of Rs 108.4 crore per year on the government.
She also directed the officials to release the funds related to the midday meals in time, and asked them to supervise the quality of the food being provided to the students.
