The Telangana High Court today asked the state government and officials concerned whether schools would be reopened on January 31.
Responding to a petition, the court also enquired about the coronavirus cases surge in the state and the fever survey, and the arrangements for the biennial Sammakka and Sarakka tribal festival given the huge number of devotees expected to participate amid the pandemic, and sought reports on the same.
The court also directed the government to ensure that huge gatherings of people were stopped, and steps were taken to enforce the following of coronavirus protocol.
Health Director Dr Srinivas Rao attended the meeting virtually and informed the court about the steps being taken to check the cases' surge.
Rao informed the court that 77 lakh families in 28 districts were covered in the house-to-house fever survey, and that the health staff had given medical kits to 3.45 lakh families with symptoms.
He also informed the court that medical kits were not required for children when asked about the same.
To the question on whether the government was taking steps to reopen the schools from January 31 as the holidays were extended till January 30, the government counsel said that the government is yet to decide on the matter, and would submit the details soon.
The court then posted the case to February 3 for further hearing, according to reports.
