Schools, colleges and all other educational institutions in Telangana will reopen on February 1 following coronavirus protocols.
Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy made an announcement to this effect to the media today.
The government has also instructed that vaccination is to be taken up in educational institutions wherever necessary.
"As the schools and colleges in other states have been reopened, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has decided to restart the schools and colleges in the state, too, following Covid protocol. We have instructed both the government and private school managements to enforce Covid protocol strictly in their respective premises. The managements will need to take all possible measures to ensure that the students wear masks, sanitise their hands regularly and maintain social distance. Else, the government will take stern action against them," Reddy said.
The minister also asked the parents to see that their children followed Covid protocol including wearing masks.
She added that the government had also instructed the health staff to ensure that the teachers and staff got vaccinated.
The state government earlier extended the mandatory Sankranthi festival holidays, originally from January 8 to 16, to January 30, and the parents and schools have since been expectant that January 31 would see the reopening. The pressure put on the state government by the parents and schools, and the indirect nudging by the High Court, also helped.
