Minister Jogu Ramanna today said that the Telangana government was spending huge funds for the welfare of the Backward Classes (BCs) for setting up "Gurukul" schools and training them for competitive examinations.
Holding a high-level review meeting with officials at Secretariat on Saturday, Ramanna directed the officials to expedite the process of setting up gurukuls and study circles for BC students.
He also stressed on expediting the construction of study circles to give BC students a competitive edge over their counterparts. For this, the government was coming up with a plan-of-action to set up government institutions enabling meritorious and eligible poor students to crack Civil Services, Group I and II, and other competitive examinations, he said.
The Minister said that the State released funds for these institutions, and urged the beneficiaries to apply for timely financial support and training for skills development. The flagship programs Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak reached the eligible and the needy besides giving financial support to the students for higher education, he added.
