EC To Take Call On MLC Elections Soon
The EC has written a letter to the Telangana government about the organisation of elections for six vacant MLC posts, under the MLA quota.
Hyderabad | 28th July 2021
Reports say that the notification for six vacant MLC posts, under the MLA quota, will likely be released this August.
The Election Commission (EC) has reportedly written a letter to the state government on the elections for the six posts.
Though the tenures of six MLCs, including Council Chairman G Sukender Reddy, Vice-Chairman N Vidyasagar Rao, and senior TRS leaders Kadiyam Srihari, Bodakunti Venkateswarlu, Mohammad Fariduddin, and Akula Lalitha, got over on June 6, the EC had postponed the elections for the posts due to the second wave of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
With case figures and fatalities falling now, the body is keen to conduct the elections soon and has sought the opinion of the Telangana government on the organisation of the same.
The government, however, is yet to respond to the EC's letter. The body will start the preparations for the elections once the government reverts.
Though the notification for the posts is yet to be released, TRS leaders have already started lobbying for them.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has promised leaders from the Padmashali, Vishwabrahmin, and Kummari communities that they will be given MLC posts. Now with new leaders from various parties, including the TDP and the BJP, joining the TRS with the hope of better political careers, the elections are bound to leave many hopefuls disgruntled.
