BRS MLC Dr Dasoju Sravan today lashed out at the Congress government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, alleging that Telangana was heading towards a financial collapse due to reckless borrowing, administrative inexperience and policy paralysis.
Citing data from the State's finance accounts up to September 2025 and the latest Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, Sravan claimed that the government had failed to manage its finances responsibly.
According to him, the State achieved only 33.49% of its total revenue target for the 2025-26 financial year in the first six months - a marginal decline from 34.10% during the same period in 2024-25 - indicating stagnation across almost all revenue categories.
Tax revenue reached 40.97% of the budgeted Rs 1.75 lakh crore, while State GST collections stood at 42.56%, almost unchanged from 42.21% the previous year.
Other key taxes such as sales tax (44.65%), State excise (34.83%), and stamps and registration (38.85%) also recorded slight declines.
A sharp fall was noted in "other taxes", which dropped to 28.63% from 37.72% last year, he said.
Expressing concern over the growing debt burden, Sravan said that Telangana had borrowed Rs 45,139 crore by September 2025 - 83.58% of its annual borrowing limit - reflecting an unsustainable dependence on debt. The fiscal deficit stood at Rs 45,139 crore, which was 84% of the budgeted Rs 54,010 crore, compared to 66% during the same period last year, he said.
The MLC accused the Chief Minister of indulging in political theatrics and hollow slogans, including Musi Revival, Future City and Telangana Rising, instead of focusing on governance. "The Congress government is more concerned with publicity than addressing systemic failures in education, healthcare, civic infrastructure, industry, and law and order," he alleged.
Sravan said that Telangana was once regarded as a model of fiscal prudence, but was now suffering from deep structural and administrative weaknesses. "This regime is driven by a negative mindset and lopsided priorities. It has mortgaged the State's future to sustain political drama," he said.
Calling for responsible and visionary leadership, Sravan urged the government to prioritise wealth creation, infrastructure development and equitable public welfare to restore economic stability and public trust.
