BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan today launched an attack on the Congress government, accusing Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of presiding over an "exploitative regime" that had pushed the State's education system into a crisis.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, Sravan levelled serious allegations of administrative lapses and financial irregularities in the education department.
Expressing shock over examination management, he alleged that Osmania University had issued the same question paper for both the five-year law course exam held on February 25 and the three-year Law (Honours) exam conducted on February 27.
Calling it a "dark day" in the university's history, he asked how an identical paper could be used for two different courses, and demanded accountability, alleging gross negligence.
He also demanded an audit of the funds allocated to Osmania University in recent years.
The BRS leader also alleged a massive financial scam in the procurement of bunker beds for the residential Gurukul Schools. According to him, the market value of the beds was around Rs 60 crore, but the government procured them at a cost of Rs 160 crore, resulting in a loss of Rs 100 crore to the exchequer. He demanded transparency in the tendering process and sought clarification on contracts awarded to firms that were reportedly blacklisted in other States.
He also criticised the Education Commission's recommendations, and claimed that they would adversely impact poor students.
He added that proposals to abolish the Gurukul residential schools and fee reimbursement schemes would harm underprivileged sections.
He also claimed that the government had pending fee reimbursement dues of Rs 10,000 crore.
The BRS leader also accused the government of sidelining the Dr B R Ambedkar Overseas Scholarship scheme introduced during the tenure of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
He urged the government to address public grievances and ensure transparency in the functioning of the education department.
Moving on to other issues, the MLC accused the government of targeting the poor through its demolition drives. Referring to incidents in Khammam district, he alleged that houses were demolished without prior notice, leaving families homeless. He described the administration's style of governance as destructive and politically motivated.
Concluding his remarks, Sravan questioned the Chief Minister's administrative vision, and demanded immediate corrective measures.
