Political tension has gripped the Gajwel constituency, represented by BRS chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, after Congress activists created a commotion at the his camp office today.
Led by DCC president Tumukunta Akanksha Reddy, Congress workers stormed the camp office carrying a photograph of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and installed it there. They then raised slogans of "Jai Congress" inside the premises.
During the incident, some individuals allegedly also attacked the damaged furniture and window panes in the office.
The BRS alleged that the Congress activists resorted to violence and were responsible for the damage. Congress leaders, on the other hand, maintained that they only placed the Chief Minister's photograph and did not engage in any assault.
BRS leader and MLC Dasoju Sravan strongly condemned the attack, calling it an assault on Telangana's self-respect as KCR, the Leader of the Opposition, was a symbol of Telangana's identity and the sacrifices of its statehood struggle martyrs.
"KCR's camp office is a semi-residential space. There is no protocol requiring the display of the Chief Minister's photograph. Attacking the premises over such a baseless reason clearly reflects the rise of rowdy politics. This is nothing but an attack on the self-respect and identity of four crore people of Telangana. Unable to digest the BRS' recent municipal election victories, such diversionary tactics are being employed by the Congress. On one hand the government introduces a hate speech bill to suppress dissent, and on the other it indulges in hate acts like this attack," he said.
Accusing the ruling Congress of intimidation tactics, he questioned the law-and-order situation and demanded strict action from the police.
