Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today said that former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao left behind a "financial cancer" as his legacy for Telangana after his tenure leading the previous BRS government.
Speaking at a ceremony at Ravindra Bharathi, where appointment letters were distributed to 1,292 newly-appointed Junior Lecturers and 240 Polytechnic Lecturers, he said that the Congress administration had inherited significant debts and financial mismanagement from KCR's government, and had been paying Rs 6,500 crore every month just to manage the debts and interest on loans incurred by the previous government.
"KCR has handed over a financial cancer to Telangana. If this situation worsens, the State will hit the brink of bankruptcy. Whenever I reveal these realities, the opposition creates a commotion and demands my resignation. But for how long can the truth be concealed?" Reddy asked.
Taking a dig at the KCR family, he said, "The entire KCR family is collectively spreading falsehoods about the current government. I refuse to govern the State based on lies. So, I will present the truth and focus on the State's development."
The Chief Minister also expressed concern over the declining educational standards in government schools and colleges, and said that the situation reflected poorly on the State.
"All newly recruited teaching staff should perform their duties with the same passion they displayed during the Telangana movement. Government schools and colleges should compete with private corporate schools. Student enrollment in government schools is dwindling with each passing year while private institutions are seeing an increase. I appeal to the teaching staff to seriously reflect on this issue," the CM said.
"Spending on students is not an expense but an investment in the future. We need to examine the root causes behind the declining number of students in government schools," he added.
He also said that the State government was constructing Young India Integrated Schools to improve educational standards in Telangana, and had allocated Rs 11,000 crore to establish 55 such schools.
He also spoke about the Skills University and said, "The Skills University is working to enhance students' skills and address the issue of unemployment. Telangana must develop to compete globally."
