Infrastructure Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao resigned from the state cabinet on Thursday, in protest against
the Centre's decision to divide Andhra Pradesh.
"As an ardent supporter of a united Andhra Pradesh, and as a representative of the people wishing and praying for a united Andhra Pradesh, it is very painful to note the developments on this front. I strongly believe that this development and decision in favour of the separation of state is not at all acceptable to the people I represent," Ganta said, in his resignation letter written to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.
"In view of all these developments, which are against the wishes, sentiments and aspirations of people who elected me, I would like to state that my conscience is not permitting me to continue as your cabinet colleague," said Ganta.
Thanking the Chief Minister and the Congress High Command for "giving him the opportunity to join the cabinet", he requested that his resignation be accepted. (INN)
