In an attempt at an electoral alliance, CPI leaders reportedly held discussions with Telangana Congress affairs in-charge Manikrao Thakre and demanded four Assembly seats in the upcoming elections.
While the comrades did not reveal the details of the meeting, it is learnt that Chada Venkat Reddy, Palla Venkat Reddy and Koonamneni Sambasiva Rao held talks with the Telangana Congress, and are said to have asked for Munugodu, Husnabad, Kothagudem and Bellampalli. The Congress however reportedly agreed to give only Munugodu and Husnabad.
The CPI then reportedly proposed at least three seats. Clarity on this is said to come in the next couple of days.
The BRS, which announced the list of its candidates for 115 of the 119 Assembly seats last week, has signalled that it is preferring to go alone for the elections. The Left parties, which had allied with the BRS for the Munugodu by-election, are angry at that, and have been holding discussions on their future course of action. They have already decided to ally with each other. And given that the Left parties consider the BJP their bete noire, the Congress is the only option in Telangana for them.
The Congress too is said to be desperately trying for alliances. Thakre reportedly himself got in touch with CPM and CPI leaders when he came to know that they were not going with the BRS. The Congress is under the impression that if it contests together with the Communists, it can register victory in many places.
