The Left parties - the CPI and the CPM - are all set to walk with the Congress in the upcoming elections in Telangana.
A screening committee meeting of the Congress was held on Monday, where the key decision was taken.
The Congress has decided to give two seats each to the CPI and the CPM. The Congress had originally proposed one seat each for the two parties, but the Communists had rejected the proposal, following which the party upped its offer.
The Congress is planning to give the Kothagudem and Munugodu constituencies to the CPI. The CPM sought Bhadrachalam and Miryalaguda, and though the Congress already has the Bhadrachalam constituency (sitting MLA Podem Veeraiah belongs to the Congress), the screening committee has decided to give it to the CPM, and Veeraiah to Pinapaka.
The communists insisted on the Paleru and Khammam tickets. However, senior Congress leader Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy is preparing to contest from Paleru, and is already campaigning in the constituency. And Thummala Nageswara Rao will contest from Khammam. The Congress therefore refused those two constituencies to the communists.
