The CPI has decided to extend its support to the TRS in the upcoming by-election for the Huzurnagar Assembly constituency seat.
Party national leader K Narayana made the announcement to that effect today, after both the TRS and the Congress had approached the party for its support (the CPI itself is not contesting the election).
The CPI had been part of the Mahakutami in the December 2018 elections comprising the TDP, the Congress, the TJS and the CPI, and had been quite vitriolic in its castigation of KCR and the TRS then. Thus, its decision is a surprise.
Narayana however said added that there were no permanent enmities or friendships among political parties.
"TRS senior leaders K Keshava Rao, B Vinod Kumar and Nama Nageshwar Rao met our leaders Chada Venkat Reddy, Aziz Pasha and others, and sought our support in the Huzurnagar by-election. The CPI has a vote back of about 7,000 in the constituency, and we are not contesting the by-poll for some reasons, and they wanted that block," Narayana said.
The Congress was expectedly upset at the CPI decision, with its leaders wondering what had changed in the TRS behaviour between December and now that the CPI decided to change sides.
