Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MLA Etela Rajender on Thursday held a press conference at the Telangana Bhavan to lambast the Congress for failing to distribute sufficient cotton seeds to Telangana farmers.
He revealed that 9 lakh bags of seeds were required for the farmers of the Karimnagar disrict, but that only 40,000 bags of seeds were made available to them.
Charging that the district of Guntur was provided with 5 lakhs bags of seeds, the TRS MLA alleged that the farmers of Telangana are being discriminated against.
He explained that the state government was supposed to have communicated with distributors of seeds 6 months prior to the onset of monsoons to ensure a sufficient supply of cotton seeds. He accused the government of failing to do so.
Etela also alleged that Karnataka had availed itself of the lion's share of cotton seeds because AP had refused to up the buying price till May 26th, by which time the state was too late.
He stated that the farmers of the state were forced to travel to the states of Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh to purchase cotton seeds.
