Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) spokesperson Mohammed Ahmed Ali on Tuesday claimed that the predictions of the Congress winning the municipal polls in Telangana came true with the Party giving an impressive performance in almost all the districts of the region.
In a media statement, Ahmed Ali said that the impressive performance of the Congress Party in the municipal and local bodies elections was a clear indication that the TPCC leaders' predictions of achieving a comfortable majority in the Assembly elections too would come true.
He said that the people had voted in favour of the Congress after realising that it was AICC President Sonia Gandhi who had granted statehood to the region.
The people of Telangana had outrightly rejected the false claims made by other parties and leaders over the formation of Telangana, he stated.
He said that the Congress honoured the sentiments of the Telangana people, and that they reciprocated by voting in favour of Congress candidates.
Ahmed Ali completely dismissed the reports of a hung Assembly or fractured verdict in Telangana. He said that the results of the municipal and local bodies elections had proved that the mood of the people was to vote for the Congress.
He said that the results, to be declared on May 16, would stun all the critics of the Congress.
He hoped that the Congress would win a majority of the Assembly seats to form the first government of Telangana.
Similarly, he said that the Congress party would win a majority of the Lok Sabha seats in the Telangana region, he said.
Reacting to the exit polls released by different media groups predicting the victory of the BJP-led NDA, the TPCC spokesperson said that the Congress party has always believed in "exact polls" and not "exit polls".
He said that similar exit polls done for the 2004 and 2009 elections had predicted a rout for the Congress. However, the real results were completely different from what the exit polls predicted, and the Congress was able to form the government both times.
Similarly, the Congress party would lead the UPA Government at the Centre for the 3rd consecutive term starting 2014, he averred. (INN)
