TPCC general secretary Kota Neelima today said that the "brutal use of force" and detention of women wrestlers who were protesting peacefully in Delhi demanding justice for them was a serious violation of human rights.
She strongly condemned the "brutal blocking and suppression" of the 36-day-long protest by the women wrestlers at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Sunday.
Neelima said that India had become the most dangerous place for women today under Prime Minister Modi's rule, and that the police, who were supposed to protect, were acting like demons. She said that the real face of Modi's dictatorial regime and its undemocratic ethos were exposed through the heart-rending scenes of the Delhi Police cruelly suppressing the demonstrators by twisting their hands, pushing their heads down, abusing them and aresting them.
"The BJP union government's insult to India's foremost women wrestlers, who have won gold medals at the Olympics and Asian Games, in the heart of Delhi is an insult to all women of India. It is a matter of shame that PM Modi has not broken his silence on the issue even after such police brutalities," she said.
She demanded that BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who was being accused of sexually harassing the women wrestlers, be arrested by the police immediately.
