Veteran Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao today slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his "dragging his feet" over the withdrawal of the Centre's controversial farm laws.
"The PM brought in the farm laws only to help the corporate sector of the country. However, the implementation of the laws will destroy the livelihoods of the country's farmers. It is shameful that he is now dragging his feet over the withdrawal of the three exploitative Acts.
Instead of resolving the matter, the Modi regime is filing criminal cases against the farmers in order to dilute the ongoing agitation," he alleged.
Rao also assailed the Centre for "inciting anti-social elements" during the farmers' Republic Day tractor rally, and turning the otherwise peaceful protest into a violent one.
"I have never seen such a government in my life. The BJP-led Centre is continuously wronging the farmers of the country. This is deplorable," he said.
The Congress leader urged the party workers to record the details of the atrocities committed by the PM to each and every village in the state, and to create awareness among their residents about the regime's "exploitative and anti-people" ways.
He also made clear the party's "pro-farmer" stand, and said that it would stand by the farmers of the state and the country till they got justice.
"Not only the Congress, but every other Opposition party will fight alongside the farmers. The laws introduced by the Centre are but a death sentence, and we will not accept their implementation," he added.
